A vulnerability has been found in Jelsoft vBulletin 3.6.8 (Forum Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the file index.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. NOTE: these issues have been disputed by the vendor, stating "I can t reproduce a single one of these". The researcher is known to be unreliable.
The weakness was presented 08/21/2007 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2007-4453 since 08/21/2007. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment. By approaching the search of inurl:index.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
