Details
A vulnerability was found in Apache Tika up to 3.3.1/4.0.0-alpha-1. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component ISA-Tab Parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
Relative Path Traversal in the ISA-Tab parser in Apache Software Foundation Apache Tika from 1.8 through 3.3.1, and 4.0.0-alpha-1, allows an attacker who can place files in a directory that the application subsequently parses to read arbitrary files accessible to the Tika process and have their contents emitted into the extracted text output, via a "Study Assay File Name" value in the ISA-Tab investigation file that traverses outside the dataset directory. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 3.3.2 or 4.0.0-beta-1, which fixes this issue.
