The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is integrity. The summary by CVE is:
The Foreign Function Interface (ffi) extension in PHP 5.0.5 does not follow safe_mode restrictions, which allows context-dependent attackers to execute arbitrary code by loading an arbitrary DLL and calling a function, as demonstrated by kernel32.dll and the WinExec function. NOTE: this issue does not cross privilege boundaries in most contexts, so perhaps it should not be included in CVE.
The weakness was released 08/24/2007 (Website). The advisory is shared at milw0rm.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-4528 since 08/24/2007.
