Details
A vulnerability was found in Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (version now known) and classified as critical. This issue affects some unknown processing of the component aap-gateway. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
A flaw was found in aap-gateway, a component of Ansible Automation Platform's Event-Driven Ansible (EDA). An unauthenticated remote attacker can bypass mutual Transport Layer Security (mTLS) authentication for event streams. This is achieved by manipulating the event stream URL and forging the HTTP Subject header. The system also inadvertently discloses the expected certificate subject in error messages, which simplifies the attack. This vulnerability allows an attacker to inject arbitrary events into EDA, potentially triggering automated workflows.
The advisory is shared at access.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-18141 since 07/28/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 07/31/2026). MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
