Details
A vulnerability was found in TortoiseSVN 1.4.4 on Windows. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability (Stored). The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Directory traversal vulnerability in Subversion before 1.4.5, as used by TortoiseSVN before 1.4.5 and possibly other products, when run on Windows-based systems, allows remote authenticated users to overwrite and create arbitrary files via a ..\ (dot dot backslash) sequence in the filename, as stored in the file repository.
The weakness was published 08/28/2007 by Nils (Website). The advisory is shared at tortoisesvn.net. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2007-3846 since 07/18/2007. The attack can be launched remotely. A single authentication is necessary for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
It is declared as proof-of-concept.
