CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

This impacts the function timer_shutdown_sync of the file drivers/gpu/drm/vc4/vc4_bo.c of the component VC4 BO Cache Timer. The manipulation results in improper synchronization. This vulnerability is cataloged as CVE-2026-68233. The attack may be launched remotely. There is no exploit available.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as very critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.41/7.1.5/7.2-rc4. Affected is the function timer_shutdown_sync of the file drivers/gpu/drm/vc4/vc4_bo.c of the component VC4 BO Cache Timer. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a improper synchronization vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-662. The product utilizes multiple threads or processes to allow temporary access to a shared resource that can only be exclusive to one process at a time, but it does not properly synchronize these actions, which might cause simultaneous accesses of this resource by multiple threads or processes. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/vc4: Shut down BO cache timer before teardown The BO cache timer callback schedules time_work, and time_work can rearm the timer through vc4_bo_cache_free_old(). vc4_bo_cache_destroy() deletes the timer and then cancels the work, which does not break that cycle: the work being cancelled can rearm the timer, and the timer then queues work again after teardown. Use timer_shutdown_sync() instead, so the timer cannot be rearmed and the cycle ends with cancel_work_sync().

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-68233 since 07/30/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/10/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.18.42, 7.1.6 or 7.2-rc5 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch a38f2724eb93a78ba250b01e0caf3468df4d3956/bac4c1a9af690b8635c6924872075c41d8763ed9/6273dd3ffb54ec581855b82ae77331b66028249c is able to eliminate this problem.
