Linux Kernel up to 7.2-rc4 IOMMU AMD buffer overflow

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.147/6.12.100/6.18.41/7.1.5/7.2-rc4 and classified as very critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component IOMMU AMD. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iommu/amd: Bound the early ACPI HID map The ivrs_acpihid command-line parser appends entries to a fixed four-element early_acpihid_map array. Unlike the sibling IOAPIC and HPET parsers, it does not reject a fifth entry before incrementing the map size. Check the capacity at the common found label before parsing the HID and UID or writing the entry.

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-68325 since 07/30/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/11/2026).

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 334401 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-68325), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 6.6.148, 6.12.101, 6.18.42, 7.1.6 or 7.2-rc5 eliminates this vulnerability.
