Linux Kernel up to 7.2-rc4 ath6kl ath6kl_wmi_connect_event_rx out-of-bounds

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.147/6.12.100/6.18.41/7.1.5/7.2-rc4 and classified as very critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function ath6kl_wmi_connect_event_rx of the component ath6kl. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: ath6kl: fix OOB read from firmware IE lengths in connect event The firmware-controlled beacon_ie_len, assoc_req_len, and assoc_resp_len fields in ath6kl_wmi_connect_event_rx() are not validated against the buffer length. Their sum (up to 765) can exceed the actual WMI event data, causing out-of-bounds reads during IE parsing and state corruption of wmi->is_wmm_enabled. Add a check that the total IE length fits within the buffer.

It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-68352 since 07/30/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/10/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.6.148, 6.12.101, 6.18.42, 7.1.6 or 7.2-rc5 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 1c690f7c4c5b37108ac8c98b94ce1b3c655a4f5e/d70c0a850c21b57a6f46ce363860203389bbeaa6/33b5342d2080657054ddf89ef1199b426a37dae8/94e1bfcefe8264a207c2fda2febb954e70a34b42/6b47b29730de3232b919d8362749f6814c5f2a33 is able to eliminate this problem.
