Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.147/6.12.100/6.18.41/7.1.5/7.2-rc3 and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function sata_dwc_enable_interrupts of the component sata_dwc_460ex. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. As an impact it is known to affect integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ata: sata_dwc_460ex: enable SATA interrupts only after IRQ handler is registered sata_dwc_enable_interrupts() is called before platform_get_irq() and ata_host_activate(), leaving the SATA controller's interrupt mask enabled without a registered handler. If a later step fails (irq request, phy init, etc.) or if the controller asserts an interrupt during probe, the irq line may fire with no handler, causing a spurious interrupt storm. Move sata_dwc_enable_interrupts() after ata_host_activate() so that interrupts are only unmasked once the handler is registered and the core is fully initialized.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-68395 since 07/30/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation requires an enhanced level of successful authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 6.6.148, 6.12.101, 6.18.42, 7.1.6 or 7.2-rc4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch fbe7df5d3a3aed2456667a4825e4ff98d6df6ca4 is able to eliminate this problem.
