A vulnerability was found in GNU glibc up to 2.42. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function wordexp. The manipulation of the argument WRDE_APPEND with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Calling wordexp with WRDE_APPEND in the GNU C Library version 2.0 to version 2.43 can cause the interface to return invalid memory in the we_wordv member, which on subsequent calls to wordfree may abort the process.
