Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Hugging Face Accelerate up to 1.14.0. This affects the function load_checkpoint_in_model/load_checkpoint_and_dispatch of the component Sharded Checkpoint Index. The manipulation of the argument weight_map with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Hugging Face Accelerate through 1.14.0 contains a path traversal vulnerability in load_checkpoint_in_model and load_checkpoint_and_dispatch functions that fail to sanitize weight_map entries from sharded checkpoint indexes. Attackers can supply relative paths with ../ sequences or absolute paths to read arbitrary files, or point shard entries at named pipes to cause indefinite blocking and denial of service.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-69112 since 08/03/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/10/2026). MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
