Details
A vulnerability was found in OpenBMB XAgent (the affected version is unknown). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is an unknown code of the file /workspace/file of the component Workspace File Endpoint. The manipulation of the argument file_name with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
XAgent contains a path traversal vulnerability in the workspace file endpoint that allows self-registered or default-credential users to read arbitrary files on the host by supplying parent-directory segments in the `file_name` form field with no path containment check. Attackers can register an account without email verification, then submit crafted `file_name` values such as parent-directory traversal sequences to the `/workspace/file` handler to read host files including application secrets, database credentials, and system files outside the Docker sandbox.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-72713 since 08/10/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
Applying the patch 26f2b6e is able to eliminate this problem.
