Details
A vulnerability was found in Strategy11 Formidable Digital Signatures Plugin up to 3.0.6. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function delete_file. The manipulation of the argument item_meta[field_id][content] with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
The Formidable Digital Signatures plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to file deletion due to insufficient file path validation in the delete_file function in all versions up to, and including, 3.0.6. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to delete files on the server by supplying an attacker-controlled filename in the item_meta[field_id][content] parameter alongside the delete_saved_image flag during the standard entry-creation POST flow on any form that accepts anonymous submissions.
