Details
A vulnerability was found in Rapid7 Velociraptor up to 0.77.1. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the component Collection Scheduling. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Velociraptor allows scheduling new collections via VQL queries in notebooks. For a user to schedule a new collection, they require the COLLECT_CLIENT permission. However, this is not enforced when the user can run a VQL query which resets the authorization provider. This allows a user who can run arbitrary VQL (usually with the "analyst" role) to launch new collections (usually requires the "investigator" role). This vulnerability is an escalation from an analyst to investigator role.
The advisory is shared for download at docs.velociraptor.app. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-64954 since 07/21/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.
Upgrading to version 0.77.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
