A vulnerability was found in ZoneLabs ZoneAlarm 7.0.362.000 (Firewall Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects the function (ssdt) of the component Function Handler. ZoneAlarm Pro 7.0.362.000 does not properly validate certain parameters to System Service Descriptor Table (SSDT) function handlers, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly gain privileges via the (1) NtCreatePort and (2) NtDeleteFile kernel SSDT hooks, a partial regression of CVE-2007-2083.
The weakness was released 09/18/2007 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-5044 since 09/23/2007. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
