Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Ipswitch IMail 8.0.3/8.0.5/8.01/8.1/8.11 (Mail Server Software). This affects some unknown processing in the library iaspam.dll. The manipulation of the argument boundary with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Heap-based buffer overflow in iaspam.dll in the SMTP Server in Ipswitch IMail Server 8.01 through 8.11 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a set of four different e-mail messages with a long boundary parameter in a certain malformed Content-Type header line, the string "MIME" by itself on a line in the header, and a long Content-Transfer-Encoding header line.
The weakness was released 09/21/2007 (Website). The advisory is shared at milw0rm.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2007-5094 since 09/26/2007. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details and a public exploit are known.
