Linux Kernel up to 7.2-rc3 lpc32xx_slc lpc32xx_slc.c lpc32xx_xmit_dma return value

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability identified as very critical has been detected in Linux Kernel up to 7.2-rc3. This affects the function lpc32xx_xmit_dma of the file drivers/mtd/nand/raw/lpc32xx_slc.c of the component lpc32xx_slc. Performing a manipulation results in return value. This vulnerability is cataloged as CVE-2026-68466. The attack must be initiated from a local position. There is no exploit available.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.2-rc3. This affects the function lpc32xx_xmit_dma of the file drivers/mtd/nand/raw/lpc32xx_slc.c of the component lpc32xx_slc. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a return value vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-252. The product does not check the return value from a method or function, which can prevent it from detecting unexpected states and conditions. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mtd: rawnand: lpc32xx_slc: fail DMA transfer on completion timeout lpc32xx_xmit_dma() waits for the DMA completion callback but ignores wait_for_completion_timeout(). A timed out DMA transfer is therefore unmapped and reported as successful to the NAND read/write path. Return -ETIMEDOUT when the completion wait expires. Terminate the DMA channel before unmapping the scatterlist so the timed out transfer cannot continue to access the buffer after the error is returned.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-68466 since 07/30/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. Additional levels of successful authentication are needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/15/2026).

Upgrading to version 5.10.261, 5.15.212, 6.1.178, 6.6.145, 6.12.97, 6.18.40, 7.1.5 or 7.2-rc4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 307e4f4c1d4e1575b3495ecc6e41aa2adc40f491/c367af37ce7238c96c6071337149099467160746/623c4d8e740debb4af28981e3d4e209f9d0260a4/bd4a622786f92e1f183f7557ab89dd32891cef60/8f5c3ee53a5dc1a0f7cfd780485f2c8b5d17f91d/cf7258f57d18026b8f77c0e80ff1805e9caf7250/cb2031f8b226efbd13735c07b075e5f14ec11f6d/17a8ce84964f243c8f89dc7353ac7e8d3137bc74 is able to eliminate this problem.
