Linux Kernel cxl_region cxl_cancel_auto_attach out-of-bounds

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel (version now known) and classified as very critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function cxl_cancel_auto_attach of the component cxl_region. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cxl/region: Fix out-of-bounds access in cxl_cancel_auto_attach() In cxl_cancel_auto_attach(), it assumes cxled->pos is a valid index for accessing p->targets[]. However, cxled->pos can be set to negative errno in cxl_region_sort_targets() if cxl_calc_interleave_pos() fails. This causes the driver to use a negative index to access p->targets[], resulting in out-of-bounds access. Fix it by walking p->targets[] instead of using cxled->pos directly.

It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-74275 since 08/15/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. The exploitation requires an enhanced level of successful authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/15/2026).
