Linux Kernel up to 7.1.4 RDMA rxe get_srq_wqe toctou

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.1.177/6.6.144/6.12.96/6.18.39/7.1.4. This issue affects the function get_srq_wqe of the component RDMA rxe. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a toctou vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-367. The product checks the state of a resource before using that resource, but the resource's state can change between the check and the use in a way that invalidates the results of the check. This can cause the product to perform invalid actions when the resource is in an unexpected state. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/rxe: Fix TOCTOU heap overflow in get_srq_wqe get_srq_wqe() reads wqe->dma.num_sge from the shared receive queue buffer, which is mapped into userspace. It validates num_sge against max_sge, but then re-reads the same field to calculate the memcpy size. A concurrent userspace thread can modify num_sge between validation and use, causing a heap buffer overflow when copying the WQE into qp->resp.srq_wqe. Read num_sge into a local variable and use it for both the bounds check and the size calculation.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-74378 since 08/15/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/15/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.1.178, 6.6.145, 6.12.97, 6.18.40, 7.1.5 or 7.2-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 3cfa2a3adc51b7c57729961a03446962ff10e3d2/cd19a6345e3727adafafa5954b58b13c92e13b80/3e07ea9579dc9553d2285c26c2823931358aa3b8/b9800d7953d119bcc068c74587d48e4ba0313629/22b8fbded65b8c441b634a185f8da67657df6c50 is able to eliminate this problem.
