Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, was found in CA Protection Suites (the affected version is unknown). Affected is the function GetUserInfo in the library rxrpc.dll. The manipulation of the argument username with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Multiple stack-based buffer overflows in CA (Computer Associates) BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Laptops and Desktops r11.0 through r11.5 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long (1) username or (2) password to the rxrLogin command in rxRPC.dll, or a long (3) username argument to the GetUserInfo function.
The bug was discovered 09/21/2007. The weakness was released 10/01/2007 by eEye Digital Security with eEye Digital Security (Website). The advisory is shared for download at ca.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2007-5003 since 09/20/2007. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely.
