This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-74416. The attack may be performed from remote. There is no available exploit.
Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.1.4. Affected is the function radeon_ring_restore of the component radeon. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/radeon: fix memory leak in radeon_ring_restore() on lock failure radeon_ring_restore() takes ownership of the data buffer allocated by radeon_ring_backup(). The caller (radeon_gpu_reset()) only frees it in the non-restore branch; in the restore branch it relies on radeon_ring_restore() to free it. If radeon_ring_lock() fails, the function returned early without calling kvfree(data), leaking the ring backup buffer on every GPU reset that fails at the lock stage. During repeated GPU resets this causes cumulative kernel memory exhaustion. Free data before returning the error.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-74416 since 08/15/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/15/2026). This vulnerability is assigned to T1499 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
