CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability described as critical has been identified in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.96/6.18.39/7.1.4/7.2-rc1. This impacts the function xe_pt_zap_ptes_entry of the file drm/xe/pt of the component xe_pt. The manipulation results in null pointer dereference. This vulnerability is identified as CVE-2026-72362. The attack can be executed remotely. There is not any exploit available.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.96/6.18.39/7.1.4/7.2-rc1. It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function xe_pt_zap_ptes_entry of the file drm/xe/pt of the component xe_pt. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/xe/pt: Fix NULL pointer dereference in xe_pt_zap_ptes_entry() The page-table walk framework may pass a NULL *child pointer for unpopulated entries. xe_pt_zap_ptes_entry() called container_of(*child) before checking for NULL, then dereferenced the result, causing a crash. Move the container_of() call after a NULL guard, so the function returns early instead of proceeding with an invalid pointer. XE_WARN_ON is kept to help root cause the issue, but we now bail instead of crashing the driver. v2: Comment that triggering XE_WARN_ON is unexpected behavior (Matt Brost) (cherry picked from commit b9297d19d9df5d4b6c994648570c5dcd1cac68ff)

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-72362 since 08/09/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 08/15/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.12.97, 6.18.40, 7.1.5 or 7.2-rc2 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch ff330ce16c846b70164ff0eb544c81219d4c5c08/78b1074966d290d4517f42bc81e13c4349368d12/d94b9922b2ae5ee6e900f8da0bd537b251c6110c/3feeb667197bd58a17f4edfdbcad249ffcb3c864 is able to eliminate this problem.
