Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in the HTTP server in Cisco IOS 11.0 through 12.4 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via (1) the query string to the ping program or (2) unspecified other aspects of the URI.
The weakness was disclosed 01/15/2009 by Adrian Pastor Richard J. Brain with ProCheckUp (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at cisco.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2008-3821 since 08/27/2008. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
