Linux Kernel up to 7.2-rc5 6fire use after free

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.150/6.12.102/6.18.43/7.1.7/7.2-rc5. It has been declared as very critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the component 6fire. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA: 6fire: Fix UAF at error handling during probe Although 6fire driver had a few fixes for dealing with the early error handling during the probe phase, it forgot a pending URB before freeing the resources, which may lead to a UAF. This patch addresses it by doing the almost same cleanup procedure like the normal disconnect phase at the error path.

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-74505 since 08/15/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/15/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.6.151, 6.12.103, 6.18.44, 7.1.8 or 7.2-rc6 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 49bc7741cd2761c703a292dc69245041ae8a67bd/2de734dcbb210bd59983e13d36988acbcc122194/11e2953d9f4c7c3d2af94a889c2d805c537d633f/630c8d6a93cbd9b2a207f1a67ef1fd21af098b0c/a54bf16965f896415c3337bc4fbb40fb11941d99 is able to eliminate this problem.
