Linux Kernel up to 7.2-rc5 TIPC tipc_poll use after free

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.150/6.12.102/6.18.43/7.1.7/7.2-rc5. It has been rated as very critical. This issue affects the function tipc_poll of the component TIPC. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tipc: avoid use-after-free in poll trace queue dumps TIPC socket tracepoints dump queue state through tipc_sk_dump(). Most queue-dump callsites already serialize that walk under the socket lock or sk->sk_lock.slock, but tipc_poll() calls trace_tipc_sk_poll(..., TIPC_DUMP_ALL, ...) without holding either lock. That lets the poll trace path reach tipc_list_dump() and backlog head/tail dumping while another context dequeues and frees an skb, leaving the trace helper dereferencing a stale queue entry. Stop the unlocked poll trace site from requesting queue dumps. Other queue dump trace callsites keep their existing output under the locking they already provide, while poll still emits the event itself without walking live queue members from an unlocked context.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-74490 since 08/15/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/15/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.6.151, 6.12.103, 6.18.44, 7.1.8 or 7.2-rc6 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch d7940bb6a8e7ab28f972c2875cb05783216312dc/5e82beba4bc1f91d0e64c9c43f2b2fa9cd1c2a7d/bed792737b5f1ba773054dbe984502958bdfe6ce/ac2f787980fdf4364cd5651a4c8128e59b8de3aa/b4f1719dfea023220e0e6bd892b087d76b2a6a49 is able to eliminate this problem.
