Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 7.1.7/7.2-rc5 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function mpi3mr_fault_uevent_emit of the component mpi3mr. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a deadlock vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-833. The product contains multiple threads or executable segments that are waiting for each other to release a necessary lock, resulting in deadlock. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: mpi3mr: Fix potential deadlock in mpi3mr_fault_uevent_emit mpi3mr_fault_uevent_emit() runs from the fault watchdog and reset paths where host I/O may already be blocked. GFP_KERNEL allocations here, both the local kzalloc_obj() and the ones inside kobject_uevent_env() itself, can trigger reclaim that waits on that blocked I/O and deadlock. Use memalloc_noio_save()/restore() to cover the whole call instead of just the local allocation.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-74526 since 08/15/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1499.
