CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.100/6.18.39/7.1.4/7.2-rc1. It has been rated as very critical. Affected by this issue is the function afs_destroy_cell_work of the component afs. The manipulation of the argument cells_dyn_ino/cells_lock with an unknown input leads to a locking vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-667. The product does not properly acquire or release a lock on a resource, leading to unexpected resource state changes and behaviors. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: afs: Fix lack of locking around modifications of net->cells_dyn_ino Fix the lack of locking around modifications of net->cells_dyn_ino by taking net->cells_lock exclusively. This also requires to cell to be removed from net->cells_dyn_ino in afs_destroy_cell_work() rather than in afs_cell_destroy() as the latter runs in RCU cleanup context and sleeping locks cannot be taken there.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-72372 since 08/09/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 08/15/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.12.101, 6.18.40, 7.1.5 or 7.2-rc2 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 4d8a2fe8847859f4fa4e9a2fa1221c9c1158e66b/2ffb70a8a01988046bb207b7d0af9358a8337378/e94f92fd56c553a8bf9421c3289e1b85c7c08857/55e841836c6f4646490f7b0347192b7a92d431ba is able to eliminate this problem.
