Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.39/7.1.4/7.2-rc1. Affected is the function afs_lock_work of the file lib/debugobjects.c of the component afs. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. This is going to have an impact on integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: afs: Fix reinitialisation of the inode, in particular ->lock_work It seems that initalising afs_vnode::lock_work a single time in the slab's init function isn't sufficient for work_structs. This results in the DEBUG_OBJECTS debugging stuff producing a warning occasionally when running the generic/131 xfstest: ODEBUG: activate not available (active state 0) object: 0000000016d8760f object type: work_struct hint: afs_lock_work+0x0/0x220 WARNING: lib/debugobjects.c:629 at debug_print_object+0x4b/0x90, CPU#3: locktest/7695 ... Also, flush ->lock_work when the inode is being evicted to make sure it's not still running.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-72375 since 08/09/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 08/15/2026).
