A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Linux Kernel (the affected version unknown). This affects the function get_current_exe_path of the component AppArmor. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: apparmor: release exe file resources on path failure get_current_exe_path() takes both an exe_file reference and a path reference before resolving the path name. If aa_path_name() failed, it returned immediately and leaked both references. Route the failure through the common cleanup path so fput() and path_put() always run after the references are acquired.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-72456 since 08/09/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
