Details
A vulnerability was found in lxsmnsyc Seroval up to 1.5.2. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function seroval.fromJSON. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a deserialization vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-502. The product deserializes untrusted data without sufficiently verifying that the resulting data will be valid. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Seroval facilitates JS value stringification, including complex structures beyond JSON.stringify capabilities. Prior to 1.5.3, seroval.fromJSON() allows attacker-controlled JSON Promise control nodes to operate on values from the general deserialization reference table without verifying genuine internal Promise resolver records, causing deserialization side effects with plugins enabled and potentially unintended server-side invocation or remote code execution when downstream frameworks register callable wrappers. This issue is fixed in version 1.5.3.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-59940 since 07/07/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
