Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in yawkat lz4-java up to 1.11.0. This affects the function XXHashFactory.nativeInstance.hash32.hash/XXHashFactory.nativeInstance.hash64.hash/XXHashFactory.nativeInstance.newStreamingHash32.update/XXHashFactory.nativeInstance.newStreamingHash64.update of the component JNI-backed XXHash Implementation. The manipulation of the argument off/len with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
yawkat LZ4 Java provides LZ4 compression for Java. Prior to 1.11.1, JNI-backed XXHash implementations fail to validate the byte array object and the off and len arguments in XXHashFactory.nativeInstance().hash32().hash(), XXHashFactory.nativeInstance().hash64().hash(), XXHashFactory.nativeInstance().newStreamingHash32().update(), and XXHashFactory.nativeInstance().newStreamingHash64().update(), allowing null arrays or oversized ranges to reach native code, read outside the Java array, and fatally terminate the JVM. This issue is fixed in version 1.11.1.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-59949 since 07/07/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
