Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Oracle Database Server 9.2.0.8 (Database Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the component TNS Listener. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The GIOP service in TNS Listener in the Oracle Net Services component in Oracle Database 9.0.1.5+, 9.2.0.8, 9.2.0.8DV, 10.1.0.5, and 10.2.0.3 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) or read potentially sensitive memory via a connect GIOP packet with an invalid data size, which triggers a buffer over-read, aka DB22.
The weakness was released 10/17/2007 by David Litchfield with NGSSoftware (Website). The advisory is shared for download at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2007-5507 since 10/17/2007. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $5k-$25k (estimation calculated on 07/29/2021).
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56058 (Oracle Database Multiple Vulnerabilities (October 2007 CPU)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19223 (Oracle October 2007 Security Update Multiple Vulnerabilities).
