Details
A vulnerability was found in FFmpeg (affected version unknown). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the file libavformat/mpegenc.c of the component MPEG-PS muxer. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
FFmpeg before commit 9d786e4 contains a stack buffer overflow in the MPEG-PS muxer (libavformat/mpegenc.c). When muxing input with more streams than the muxer's fixed-size stack buffer accommodates, the buffer is overflowed. A crafted input with an excessive number of streams triggers the overflow during MPEG-PS muxing.
The advisory is available at code.ffmpeg.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-75142 since 08/17/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely.
