Details
A vulnerability was found in Splunk Enterprise up to 9.4.13/10.0.8/10.2.5/10.4.1. It has been classified as problematic. This affects an unknown function of the component Table Editor. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14, a user who holds the "power" Splunk role could store attacker-controlled Search Processing Language (SPL) in a Table Editor dataset and share the dataset. A user who holds the "admin" Splunk role triggers the SPL when that user opens the dataset in the Table Editor. The SPL runs using the permissions of the second user and could expose all relevant data and modify limited data on the search head. The vulnerability is possible because the Table Editor does not apply SPL safeguards for risky commands when it prepares the dataset initial data. The vulnerability requires the attacker to phish the affected user by tricking them into initiating a request within their browser. The user who holds the "power" Splunk role should not be able to exploit the vulnerability at will. The advisory is shared at advisory.splunk.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-76341 since 08/19/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are required for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 9.4.14, 10.0.9, 10.2.6 or 10.4.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
