Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Red Hat FreeIPA (version unknown). This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component Ticket Granting Service. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a certificate validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-295. The product does not validate, or incorrectly validates, a certificate. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. CVE summarizes:

A flaw was found in FreeIPA. When a trust relationship is configured between FreeIPA and Active Directory, Active Directory users can bypass authentication for FreeIPA services, including the portal, SMB server, and LDAP directory. This is possible by impersonating a client name in the Ticket Granting Service (TGS) due to FreeIPA services not verifying Privilege Attribute Certificate (PAC) certificates. This vulnerability could allow an authenticated Active Directory user to escalate their privileges within the FreeIPA domain.

The advisory is shared for download at access.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-11861 since 06/10/2026. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $5k-$25k (estimation calculated on 09/25/2026). The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1587.003.
