LXC Incus up to 7.2.x Storage Volume Configuration block.create_options argument injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in LXC Incus up to 7.2.x. It has been declared as very critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the component Storage Volume Configuration. The manipulation of the argument block.create_options with an unknown input leads to a argument injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-88. The product constructs a string for a command to be executed by a separate component in another control sphere, but it does not properly delimit the intended arguments, options, or switches within that command string. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Incus is a system container and virtual machine manager. Prior to version 7.3.0, improper validation of user-provided `block.create_options` in storage volume configuration leads to argument injection in the constructed filesystem creation command line. This allows a project-scoped user to inject arbitrary arguments into the binary executed as root. Version 7.3.0 patches the issue.

The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-62867 since 07/14/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/21/2026). This vulnerability is assigned to T1059 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

Upgrading to version 7.3.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
