Details
A vulnerability was found in Unleash up to 7.5.1/7.6.4/8.0.1. It has been classified as problematic. Affected is the function openAPIValidationMiddleware of the file src/lib/error/bad-data-error.ts of the component OpenAPI Validation. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
Unleash is an open-source feature management platform. Prior to 7.5.2, 7.6.5, and 8.0.2, the shared OpenAPI validation error path in src/lib/error/bad-data-error.ts passes a raw request value from lodash.get to JSON.stringify in genericErrorMessage and fromOpenApiValidationErrors without guarding stack exhaustion. An unauthenticated attacker can send a roughly 10 KB JSON value nested thousands of levels deep to POST /edge/validate, POST /edge/issue-token, or another OpenAPI-validated endpoint, causing RangeError: Maximum call stack size exceeded in openAPIValidationMiddleware and terminating the Node process because no uncaughtException handler recovers it. Replaying the request can sustain a complete service outage. This issue is fixed in versions 7.5.2, 7.6.5, and 8.0.2.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-63462 since 07/16/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1499 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
Upgrading to version 7.5.2, 7.6.5 or 8.0.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
