Details
A vulnerability was found in Netty up to 4.2.16.Final/4.1.136.Final. It has been classified as critical. This affects some unknown processing of the component Socks4ClientEncoder/Socks5ClientEncoder. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a crlf injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-93. The product uses CRLF (carriage return line feeds) as a special element, e.g. to separate lines or records, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes CRLF sequences from inputs. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Netty (io.netty:netty-codec-socks) versions 4.2.0.Final through 4.2.16.Final and 4.1.x through 4.1.136.Final contain null byte, CRLF, and credential injection vulnerabilities in the SOCKS4 (Socks4ClientEncoder) and SOCKS5 (Socks5ClientEncoder) client encoders, which fail to validate domain address and authentication (username/password) fields. An attacker able to control these fields can inject null bytes or CRLF characters to truncate or alter values, potentially enabling domain spoofing, SOCKS4 userid truncation, authentication data injection, and protocol confusion. Fixed in 4.2.17.Final and 4.1.137.Final.
It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-62380 since 07/14/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
