CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Academy Software Foundation OpenEXR up to 3.2.10/3.3.12/3.4.13. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function FlatHalfChannel::row of the component FlatHalfChannel. The manipulation of the argument dataWindow.min with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. As an impact it is known to affect integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

OpenEXR is the reference implementation and specification for the EXR image format, widely used in the motion picture industry. Versions before 3.2.11, 3.3.0 through 3.3.12, and 3.4.0 through 3.4.13 allow a crafted EXR with a nonzero dataWindow.min to make TypedFlatImageChannel::row() return an invalid heap pointer, causing out-of-bounds or use-after-free writes. This occurs when an application writes rows through FlatHalfChannel::row(). Affected consumers are tools, converters, render pipeline components, or image-processing services that accept untrusted EXR files and use FlatHalfChannel::row() on loaded images. This issue is fixed in versions 3.2.11, 3.3.13, and 3.4.14.

It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-59184 since 07/02/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.

Upgrading to version 3.2.11, 3.3.13 or 3.4.14 eliminates this vulnerability.
