A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Microsoft Whale Communication IAG up to 3.7 SP2. Affected is the function CheckForUpdates/UpdateComponents in the library WhlMgr.dll of the component ActiveX Control. The manipulation as part of a HTML Document leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. Multiple stack-based buffer overflows in the Whale Client Components ActiveX control (WhlMgr.dll), as used in Microsoft Intelligent Application Gateway (IAG) before 3.7 SP2, allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via long arguments to the (1) CheckForUpdates or (2) UpdateComponents methods.
The bug was discovered 04/15/2009. The weakness was shared 04/16/2009 by Will Dormann with CERT/CC (Website). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2007-2238 since 04/25/2007. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
