Linux Kernel up to 7.1.9 flowtable nf_flow_table_iterate use after free

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 7.1.9 and classified as very critical. This vulnerability affects the function nf_flow_table_iterate of the component flowtable. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: flowtable: publish GC-visible tuple last nf_flow_table_iterate() only treats original-direction tuple nodes as owning entries. Publishing the original node first lets GC observe and free a flow while flow_offload_add() is still inserting the reply node. Publish the reply node first and the original node last so GC never sees a partially installed flow. KASAN can trigger slab-use-after-free read and write reports in the flowtable/rhashtable path (rht_deferred_worker, jhash, flow_offload_del, flow_offload_lookup, etc.).

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-74746 since 08/15/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/26/2026).

Upgrading to version 5.10.266, 5.15.217, 6.1.184, 6.6.153, 6.12.105, 6.18.46 or 7.1.10 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 0a00254585827f1695aa2700114af622ea754cfa/be345dcbddb4643a54252b954af974b16eda8f91/211ee5d998d92a7d548811939c65942d06c146e4/d37917e7bebe078f3c17e47fd6fc1c9f6e8497b2/972fdf7c4f5c282a239c88fea614b056c33dc025/d9d3050a70efe217e73a0751e55fdae6a7092620/d16b71231e65cb05daea2b45701fcf09cef041e7/2014ac62df9d45bb9a004a043e85df7be09ed780 is able to eliminate this problem.
