Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.104/6.18.45/7.1.9. It has been classified as very critical. This affects the function tegra_gcm_do_one_req of the component Tegra Crypto Driver. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: crypto: tegra - fix rctx->cryptlen calculation in tegra_gcm_do_one_req() Perform rctx->cryptlen calculation in tegra_gcm_do_one_req() the same way it is done in tegra_ccm_crypt_init(). The current formulae may lead to a crash if a caller does not call tegra_gcm_setauthsize() and so ctx->authsize remains zero. Then a decrypt operation with incorrect rctx->cryptlen will lead to a write beyound rctx->dst_sg buffer. As a follow-up cleanup delete struct tegra_aead_ctx->authsize field since it appears to be completely unused. Also simplify tegra_ccm_setauthsize() and tegra_gcm_setauthsize() functions respectively.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-80522 since 08/26/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/26/2026).
Upgrading to version 6.12.105, 6.18.46 or 7.1.10 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch cd6991001bf0681ed0bcf21f9cc3d261d749b2bb/99a18e1d979e0fad3aaf9c65ae6696897c1d9869/c6237834d9994de209cb90c7a2c461247bce8e90/360f2974fcea49c61f6d6f81554741a9eeee7168 is able to eliminate this problem.
