Details
A vulnerability was found in Plone up to 3.0.2 (Content Management System) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Plone 2.5 through 2.5.4 and 3.0 through 3.0.2 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary Python code via network data containing pickled objects for the (1) statusmessages or (2) linkintegrity module, which the module unpickles and executes.
The bug was discovered 11/06/2007. The weakness was released 11/06/2007 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2007-5741 since 10/31/2007. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 28167 (FreeBSD : plone -- unsafe data interpreted as pickles (ffba6ab0-90b5-11dc-9835-003048705d5a)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks and running in the context l.
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 6 days after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
