Oracle Database Server 9.2.0.2 TRANSFORM memory corruption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, has been found in Oracle Database Server 9.2.0.2 (Database Software). Affected by this issue is the function TRANSFORM. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Buffer overflow in MDSYS.SDO_CS in Oracle Database Server 8iR3, 9iR1, 9iR2 up to 9.2.0.6, and 10gR1 up to 10.1.0.4 allows remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (crash) and execute arbitrary code via the TRANSFORM function. NOTE: this issue might already be covered by CVE-2007-5515, CVE-2007-5509, or CVE-2007-5505, but there are insufficient details to be sure.

The weakness was published 10/29/2007 by Esteban Martinez Fayo with Application Security as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2007-5897. The attack may be launched remotely. The successful exploitation requires a simple authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $5k-$25k (estimation calculated on 07/29/2021).
