Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.39/7.1.4. Affected by this vulnerability is the function parse_btf_arg of the component Tracing Probes. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tracing/probes: Remove WARN_ON_ONCE from parse_btf_arg Sashiko found that user can cause this WARN_ON_ONCE() easily with adding a kprobe event based on a raw address with BTF parameter. Since this is not an unexpected condition, remove the WARN_ON_ONCE().
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-80607 since 08/26/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation needs additional levels of successful authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
