Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.1.177/6.6.144/6.12.96/6.18.39/7.1.4. This vulnerability affects the function xfrm_decode_session of the component BPF. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Disable xfrm_decode_session hook attachment BPF LSM programs can currently attach to xfrm_decode_session(). That hook may return an error, but security_skb_classify_flow() calls it from a void path and triggers BUG_ON() if an error is returned. Disable BPF attachment to the hook to prevent a BPF LSM program from turning packet classification into a full panic.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-80669 since 08/26/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are needed for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 08/28/2026). The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.
