CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.102/6.18.43/7.1.7. Affected is the function max17040_get_property of the component max17040. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a uninitialized pointer vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-824. The product accesses or uses a pointer that has not been initialized. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: power: supply: max17040: handle missing status supplier MAX17040 does not report charger state itself, so the driver forwards POWER_SUPPLY_PROP_STATUS to a supplier power supply. If no supplier is registered, power_supply_get_property_from_supplier() returns -ENODEV and leaves the output value untouched. max17040_get_property() currently ignores that error and returns success, so userspace can read an uninitialized status value from the battery power supply. This happens on systems that use the fuel gauge without a charger supplier relationship in firmware. Return POWER_SUPPLY_STATUS_UNKNOWN when no supplier provides STATUS, and propagate other supplier lookup errors.

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-80711 since 08/26/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/28/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.12.103, 6.18.44 or 7.1.8 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 91ac995a6f4ddf4f92b231b080544abf23a9b871/b039f13e095d28a64ca6b21d0ee5440d8b048f37/ee2ea0c452edc0930e7395b080dccd5a1cb965e1/725668c6b6aa3971fe850659102c250d0d676e18 is able to eliminate this problem.
