Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.102/6.18.43/7.1.7 and classified as critical. This issue affects the function mtk_poll_controller of the component mtk_eth_soc. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: ethernet: mtk_eth_soc: pass eth to mtk_handle_irq_rx in poll_controller mtk_handle_irq_rx expects a struct mtk_eth * (matching the request_irq cookie), but mtk_poll_controller incorrectly passed the net_device *. Calling ndo_poll_controller with CONFIG_NET_POLL_CONTROLLER enabled would then crash.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-80694 since 08/26/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/30/2026).
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 341333 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-80694), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 6.12.103, 6.18.44 or 7.1.8 eliminates this vulnerability.
