Linux Kernel up to 6.12.102/6.18.43/7.1.7 mtk_eth_soc mtk_poll_controller memory corruption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.102/6.18.43/7.1.7 and classified as critical. This issue affects the function mtk_poll_controller of the component mtk_eth_soc. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: ethernet: mtk_eth_soc: pass eth to mtk_handle_irq_rx in poll_controller mtk_handle_irq_rx expects a struct mtk_eth * (matching the request_irq cookie), but mtk_poll_controller incorrectly passed the net_device *. Calling ndo_poll_controller with CONFIG_NET_POLL_CONTROLLER enabled would then crash.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-80694 since 08/26/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/28/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.12.103, 6.18.44 or 7.1.8 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 3bd58ac9ca0c552651f533c1bd280dd19ae7d4e8/276f1f180f55d56cf5992a581e20ed2b3dfa6ced/7eb46318d53940dab63dea7130e720b67a656104/e095f249e2209674f6366f6db0383a2b96e19239 is able to eliminate this problem.
