Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in IBM Informix Dynamic Server up to 10.00 (Information Management Software). Affected is an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Directory traversal vulnerability in IBM Informix Dynamic Server (IDS) before 10.00.xC7W1 allows local users to gain privileges by referencing modified NLS message files through directory traversal sequences in the DBLANG environment variable.
The weakness was disclosed 11/14/2007 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at www-1.ibm.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2007-5956 since 11/13/2007. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
It is declared as proof-of-concept.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (38297), SecurityFocus (BID 26363†) and Secunia (SA27542†). The entry VDB-39673 is pretty similar. VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
