Details
A vulnerability was found in andialbrecht sqlparse up to 0.5.x. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects the function ReindentFilter._get_offset of the file sqlparse/filters/reindent.py of the component ReindentFilter. The manipulation of the argument sql with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
sqlparse is a non-validating SQL parser module for Python. Prior to 0.6.0, sqlparse.format(sql, reindent=True) and sqlformat --reindent route attacker-controlled parenthesized tuple lists through ReindentFilter._get_offset() in sqlparse/filters/reindent.py, where _flatten_up_to_token() repeatedly rebuilds and joins the statement prefix. Thousands of offset calculations walk an expanding token tree, producing quadratic CPU consumption for inputs that remain below MAX_GROUPING_TOKENS and causing request delays, reduced throughput, or worker starvation. This issue is fixed in version 0.6.0.
It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-84305 since 09/01/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
